Day 3 Terrasini - Santo Stefano Quisquina

Arrivederci Terrasini

 All fitted out and ready to go. Bill & Jills bikes and baggage have still not arrived, they will be in the fire truck today. Bill said he has his fireman's hat on.

Terrasini is approx 30klm from Palermo and relies on fishing and tourism. The population triples in the holiday season.

Steady climb out of Terrasini, quickly we have wonderful views over the Mediterranean.

After 50 klm the gradient rises sharply as we head towards a town made famous in literature and film called The Godfather. The town became famous for its Mafia and some well known clans had their headquarters here (the Clan dei Corleonesi). 10 klm of climbing as we head towards Prizzi a beautiful town perched high on the side of a hill (as most Italian towns are).

Our first stop for the night is Santo Stefano and we are staying in a hotel, so we are looking forward to a comfortable nights sleep rather than camping.

We descend down into Santo Stefano and admiring a church or shrine at one of the surrounding peaks thinking we probably won't have the opportunity to see it and admire the views......... Ross Garry and myself wait in the town, for Peter & Paul, only to hear Garry's phone ring...guys you were supposed to turn left back up the hill...where that church is on the peak. That hurts and the last 4 klm to the top is steep upto 15% gradient near the top, but the view is breathtaking.

The advantage about holidaying this time of year is the hotels are virtually empty.
