Day 5 Frankfurt

Dominik and crew in central Frankfurt

When we awoke in the morning we had parked outside a local swimming pool in the car park. We had some breakfast and Dominik met us beside the caravan park he had kindly booked us into. (Campingplatz Mainkur) very nice site right by the Main River. It was wonderful to see him again. Booked in, then head off with Dominik on the local train network from Frankfurt Mainkur. Which is near the historic town of Fechenheim.

We travelled into Frankfurt central approx. 9 klm away. The European Central Bank and Stock Exchange is located here, so this is the commercial heart of Germany. A beautiful city of 750,000, The Main River joins the Rhine approx. 30 klm down stream.

Frankfurt has a lovely feel to it, clean spacious, and due to it's central location is a major air, rail and road transport hub. A bit of trivia, 342 trains daily for domestic and European destinations. Frankfurt also has an impressive sky line with many tall buildings.

Frankfurt was one of Germany's largest medieval cities, sadly like many German cities was almost completely destroyed in WWII. They have re-constructed a number of dwellings in the central market place of the city where Christmas Markets and festivities are popular.

Dominik looking on at my lunch. Is that a bowl of soup Ross?, No cup of coffee German style.

Main River, impressive and it hasn't joined the Rhine yet. St Bartholomew, Cathedral opened in 1550 in the background, one of the few buildings to survive the bombings.

No it's not your birthday Paul, the cake and refreshments are provided by Anna for all of us.

The view from Dominik and Anna's apartment, right outside the tram stop!
Within walking distance of the river. Anna often rides to work, whilst Dominik (IT Guru) drives to a town some 25 klm away.

The river banks are wonderful through the city, with plenty of activities, and people relaxing on the grass enjoying the sun.
Dominik and Anna showing us the sights of the city after a lovely lunch. Below the Romerberg market place.

Danke Dominik and Anna, wonderful hosts, explored many beautiful places of interest, great company and good food and wine.

Gute Nact, Dominik and Anna, Vielen Dank für einen wunderbaren Tag.
